Garages

Detached garages built strong and affordable

Detached garages built the post-frame way

CNO Pole Barns builds detached garages and carports for homeowners across Oakland, Genesee, Lapeer, and Macomb counties. Post-frame construction goes up efficiently and holds up as well as traditional stick-built framing, from a simple two-car garage to a larger multi-bay building for vehicles and equipment.

Sized around what you park

A basic two-car garage handles parking fine, but most people who also want a workbench or a mower in there end up wishing they'd sized up. We plan bay count, door sizes, and ceiling height around what goes inside. Siding and roofing colors can match or complement your house, and insulated and heated options keep the space usable through a Michigan winter. If you're storing an RV, motorhome, or boat, our boat and RV storage buildings page covers those - taller doors and sidewalls change the whole design.

CNO Pole Barns is locally owned and carries an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Call (248) 625-2334 and tell us what the garage needs to hold.

Common questions

Is a post-frame garage cheaper than a stick-built garage?

In most cases, yes. Post-frame construction uses fewer materials and takes less labor than traditional stick framing, so a detached garage usually costs less and holds up just as well.

Do I need a permit for a detached garage in Michigan?

In most townships, yes. Detached garages over a certain footprint - often 200 square feet, though it varies by municipality - need a building permit, and setback rules control where the garage can sit on your lot. We put the permit package together for projects across Oakland, Genesee, Lapeer, and Macomb counties.

Can you build a garage with a loft or attic space?

Yes. We build a lot of garages with loft storage above the bays. A loft adds storage without growing the footprint, which matters when setbacks limit how big the building can be.

What size garage should I build?

That depends on your needs. A standard two-car garage is typically 24x24, but if you want room for a workbench, storage, or larger vehicles, we recommend going with at least 30x30. We will help you find the right size for your property.
