Fenton anchors the southern end of CNO's Genesee County work. The company has been building in Michigan since 1970 and is locally owned today by Zosim Serban, with three crews that cover Genesee, Oakland, Lapeer, and Macomb counties. Lake Fenton and Silver Lake put a lot of water close to town, and water means gear. On lake lots the usual request is a detached garage with the height and depth for a pontoon or wake boat on its trailer, plus room for whatever the house garage gave up on. Out in Fenton Township and down into Tyrone Township, parcels stretch out and pole barns take over: workshop space, equipment storage, a dry spot for the camper between trips. The permit authority depends on which side of the city line your parcel sits. Addresses inside the Fenton city limits go through the City of Fenton's building department. Most of the surrounding land is Fenton Township, which runs its own permits, and parcels south of the county line answer to Tyrone Township instead. We sort out the right office before we submit anything, and the plot plan and application come with the job.
