A Faster, Simpler Way Into a Steel Building
The Express Line is Federal Steel Systems' program for basic rectangular steel buildings. Instead of custom engineering a building around unusual bay widths or heavy point loads, the design stays simple, which is what lets materials ship in about 5 weeks. Permit and anchor-bolt drawings get mailed separately from the main package, so you can start your township permitting while the building is still in production.
CNO is a certified Federal Steel Systems dealer, and we quote, deliver, and stand up Express Line buildings for customers across southeast Michigan who want a straightforward steel shell without a long custom lead time.
What is the Express Line?
It's a stripped-down version of the same steel system Federal Steel builds for commercial, industrial, and agricultural jobs, just without the custom footprint or engineered point loads those projects call for. The building still arrives pre-cut, pre-drilled, and pre-welded, so it bolts together the same way any Federal Steel building does. Roll-up doors, walk doors, and window placement can still be laid out around how you plan to use the space. What changes is the shape stays rectangular and simple, which is the trade-off that gets materials to your site faster.
Fire-resistant steel construction still applies, so an Express Line building can qualify for lower insurance premiums, and high R-value panel options are available if you want the building insulated for year-round use. The trade-off is simplicity for speed: you're not customizing bay widths or engineering around a crane, you're getting a straightforward shell on a shorter timeline.
Steel Express Line or a post-frame pole barn?
If you're comparing a simple steel shell against a simple wood-framed building, take a look at our post-frame pole barns too. Both are straightforward builds. Which one costs less and moves faster depends on your size, your site, and what you're storing, and we'll tell you honestly which fits your project.

Common questions
Express Line is Federal Steel Systems' program for basic rectangular buildings, built without the custom bay widths or point-load engineering a complex commercial or industrial project needs. Keeping the design simple is what lets materials ship in about 5 weeks instead of a longer custom lead time.
Materials are typically on site in about 5 weeks, with permit and anchor-bolt drawings mailed separately so you can start your township paperwork while the building is still in production. Total project time also depends on your permitting and site prep.
It fits straightforward storage, workshop, or utility buildings where you don't need wide clear spans, crane capacity, or a custom footprint. If your project needs those things, a standard Federal Steel building is the better fit.
The simpler design and shorter lead time generally make it a more efficient build, but exact pricing depends on size and options. We'll give you a straight number once we know what you're building.
